On November, 9 three Ukrainian sailors of the container ship Mekong Spirit that was arrested in Greece are returning home. We are talking about the second assistant captain Alexander Zamogilny, welder Vladimir Lyubatsky and cook Vladimir Tsvetkov. At the moment, they go through documentation procedure.
For the last three months, financial support for the remaining Ukrainian sailors has been provided by the President of the Charity Organization “Boumbouras Foundation”, philanthropist Pantelis Boumbouras. At his expense, apartments in the center of Athens were rented and food was purchased.
Let us to remind you that the container ship Mekong Spirit with 16 crew members was detained 1.5 years ago by Greek law enforcement forces on suspicion of smuggling. Families of sailors asked for help the Boumbouras Foundation.
After studying all the circumstances of the case, the Foundation began to assist the crew of the ship.
“During all these months serious diplomatic negotiations were led between two countries - Ukraine and Greece. The crew was assisted by a lawyer that we hired. In one period, we rented a house to seamen in Lavrio and paid for groceries. And after 12 of 16 people returned to Ukraine, we supported the remaining three crew members. In particular, for almost three months we rented apartments in Athens and allocated money for the purchase of food products,” said Pantelis Boumbouras.
