On 28 October 2016 with the financial and organizational support of the “Boumbouras Foundation” and its President Mr. Pantelis Boumbouras himself the Greek national holiday “OHI” was celebrated grandly in Kiev.
The celebration started with the morning church and memorial service for those who died for liberty and independence of Greece in the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
After the memorial service some special events in the Column Hall of Kyiv City Council took place. There was a reception and an exhibition-tasting of the Greek cuisine. The representatives of the Embassy of Greece in Ukraine, the Kyiv City State Administration, the representatives of universities and schools where the Modern Greek language is taught, the presidents of the national communities of Ukraine, the members of Kyiv City Greek Community named K. Ipsilantis and other guests came to visit the events. Afterwards the concert took place, where the Children’s Choir School of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra “Litanna”, the honoured artists of Ukraine, children’s bands and national bands of Kyiv took part.
During the special gathering in the Column Hall the film “OHI DAY – 28 OCTOBER 2016” that was prepared especially for the holiday was shown to the public.
